Madunagala Forest Meditation Centre near Suriyawewa town in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka is a historical site habituated by arhanths in ancient times. This serene forest hermitage is visited by thousands of devotees from all parts of the country every poya day. This is the only place in the Southern Province where the sacred tooth has been kept. Presently, a replica of the relic chamber at Kandy Sri Dalada Maligawa is being built at this place. This and a Samadhi Buddha statue are being designed here by the Malalasekera Foundation. The Buddha statue which was a great need depicts great compassion of the Buddha and is made from natural rock.
